Located in the heart of the Pomerol plateau, Clos L’Église is a historical and confidential reference, admired for its wines with enveloping charm, caressing depth, and remarkable longevity. Between rigor and sensuality, this estate embodies the singular elegance of great Pomerol.
The estate dates back to the 18th century, but it is during the 20th and 21st centuries that Clos L’Église established itself among the jewels of Pomerol. Since its acquisition in 1997 by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and Patrice Lévêque, the estate has experienced a true renaissance, with extreme attention paid to every detail, from the vineyard to the cellar.
The vineyard, about 6 hectares in a single block, rests on deep clay-gravel soils, with a subsoil of iron dirt (machefer) – typical of the greatest terroirs of Pomerol. These exceptional natural conditions offer a slow maturity, contained power, and refined expression of Merlot.
The wine of Clos L’Église is a Pomerol of texture, with a creamy mouthfeel, creamy and melted tannins. It reveals deep notes of black cherry, truffle, cocoa, and violet, with a noble and silky length. The style is both generous and precise, crafted for aging but already charming when young.
Clos L’Église: the estate's unique cuvée, it concentrates the DNA of great Pomerol: predominantly Merlot, sometimes complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc, carefully vinified and aged in new barrels for 18 to 24 months.
Viticulture is conducted in a reasoned and sustainable manner, with a meticulous parcel-based approach. Harvesting is exclusively manual, with strict sorting, and vinifications are carried out in thermo-regulated concrete vats. The aging, subtle and integrated, aims to support the fruit without dominating it, in a resolutely modern and pure style.
