A refined classic at the heart of Margaux
Château d’Issan is an emblematic Grand Cru Classé of Margaux, rooted in history since the 12th century and transformed by the Cruse family since 1945. Under the current leadership of Xavier and Caroline Cruse, the estate combines tradition and innovation, with a modern vision based on respect for the terroir.

Terroir & grape varieties: harmony of gravel and elegance
The estate covers 54 hectares of fine gravel with limestone subsoil, ideal for the slow ripening of Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (30%), and small touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (10%). Vines average 30 years old, high density (~8,500 vines/ha), favorable south-southwest orientation.

Viticulture & philosophy: sustainable precision
Sustainable viticulture with controlled grass cover, integrated pest management, and strict manual harvesting. Recent efforts focus on soil diversity, water management, and reduced intervention, while maintaining an elegant and racy Margaux signature.

Vinification & aging: finesse and structure
Parcel vinification in stainless steel and wooden vats, gentle pump-overs, moderate macerations. Partial malolactic fermentation in new barrels. Aging for 16 to 18 months in French oak (50% new), to preserve the fruit while bringing finesse and longevity.
