An emblematic estate of modern Montalcino
Located south of the historic area of Montalcino, Castello Banfi is one of the most emblematic and innovative estates in Tuscany. Founded in 1978 by the brothers John and Harry Mariani, two passionate Italian-American entrepreneurs, the estate quickly rose among the references of Brunello di Montalcino, thanks to a resolutely quality-oriented approach, scientific research, and respect for the terroir.
The heart of the estate is around the superb medieval castle of Poggio alle Mura, carefully restored, which overlooks the vineyards and embodies the meeting between history, hospitality, and wine excellence.
A unique terroir, mastered with rigor
The Banfi vineyard extends over more than 850 cultivated hectares, within a 2,800-hectare estate. The mosaic of soils (clay-limestone, sands, alluvial pebbles) allows perfect adaptation of the grape varieties. The property benefits from an ideal microclimate, characterized by a southwest exposure, an altitude between 150 and 350 meters, and thermal amplitudes favorable to aromatic finesse.
The Sangiovese clones used in the Brunello cuvées are the result of 25 years of internal research, in order to preserve authenticity while mastering regularity and balance.
A refined, ambitious style faithful to its origin
The wines of Castello Banfi shine with their aromatic purity, silky structure, and remarkable aging potential. Whether in Brunello, Super Tuscan, or Tuscan white, each wine displays a strong elegance, between tradition and modernity. The aging processes are precise, often in large barrels or French oak barrels with controlled toasting.
Emblematic cuvées
