Domaine Gourt de Mautens – The Free and Lively Expression of Rasteau

Located in Rasteau, in the heart of the southern Rhône Valley, the Domaine Gourt de Mautens is a place as unique as it is endearing. Founded by Jérôme Bressy in the late 1990s, the estate embodies a radically personal vision of wine: pure, living, rooted, without artifice. Early on converted to biodynamics, Jérôme Bressy left the Rasteau appellation in 2010 to work in Vin de France, in order to maintain total freedom in grape variety selection and winemaking.

The vineyard spans about fifteen hectares, planted on clay-limestone and marl soils, with many old vines (50 to 100 years), often in mixed planting. The grape varieties used are very diverse: Grenache, Carignan, Counoise, Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Cinsault, Mourvèdre... but also Clairette, Grenache Blanc, and Bourboulenc for the rare whites.

Cultivation and Winemaking Methods

The entire estate is certified biodynamic, with manual work, light plowing, plant teas, and respect for lunar rhythms. No herbicides, no chemical inputs. The harvests are entirely manual, with meticulous sorting.

In the cellar, Jérôme Bressy vinifies in a non-interventionist way: indigenous yeasts, long macerations in concrete or wooden vats, without fining or filtration. The aging is done in large barrels or amphorae, often very long (up to 24 months). The use of sulfur is extremely limited.

The wines are powerful, yet always balanced, full of energy and relief, with a rare aromatic depth. They are wines for aging, but never austere.
