Chiseled elegance, racy intensity, and refined power
Second Cru Classé of 1855 on the left bank of Pauillac, Château Pichon Longueville Baron (commonly known as Pichon Baron) spans approximately 73 hectares of deep gravel. Owned by the Lurton family since 1947, it is currently led by Ronald Lurton, assisted by an expert oenological team. Expressive and structured, the wine reflects a balanced style between power and finesse.
Terroir & grape varieties
The vineyard rests on a Günzian gravel plateau, with a clay-limestone subsoil, ensuring optimal drainage and deep rooting. Classic blend with Cabernet Sauvignon (≈60%), Merlot (≈30%), Cabernet Franc (≈7%), and Petit Verdot (≈3%), all planted at high density (~8,000 vines/ha).
Precision parcel viticulture
Careful parcel management, controlled grass cover, exclusively manual harvesting, rigorous sorting in the vineyard and winery. Sustainable and ecological practices, including natural hedges and plant cover to preserve soils and biodiversity.
Structured vinification & aging
Fermentation by micro-lots in stainless steel and wooden vats, long macerations (3–4 weeks). Aging lasts 18 to 20 months in French oak barrels, with about 50% new wood, complemented by foudres units to balance structure and fruitiness.
