Founded in 1999, Bodegas Estefanía quickly established itself as one of the leading estates in the rediscovery of Bierzo. It was the Frías family who initiated the project by renovating an old dairy in Dehesas, near Ponferrada, with the ambition of revealing the full nobility of the Mencía grape, long underestimated. Now owned by the MG Wines group, the estate continues to stand out for its ability to combine purity, tension, and depth, under the technical direction of Silvia Marcos, a discreet yet demanding oenologist.

The house's philosophy is based on mountain viticulture, respectful of living organisms, and winemaking without excess, seeking to sincerely convey the personality of the old vines rooted on the schist slopes of Bierzo.

Terroir & winemaking

The vineyard is composed of high-altitude plots (500 to 700 m), often centuries-old, planted mainly with Mencía, but also with Godello (for whites), on soils of schist, clay, and quartz. These complex terroirs give the wines a marked minerality, natural freshness, and notable aging potential.

The harvest is manual, the winemaking gentle (indigenous yeasts, moderate macerations), and the aging is done in French oak barrels, always with a focus on respecting the fruit and balance.

Iconic cuvées

  • Tilenus Pieros: a single-vineyard cuvée from very old vines, a wine with great aging potential, intense and precise.

  • Tilenus La Florida: fruity, silky Mencía with beautiful freshness.

  • Tilenus Roble & Crianza: an intermediate range, elegant, combining red fruit, floral, and discreet woody notes.

  • Tilenus Godello: dry white, taut, with a saline and floral framework.
