Domenico Clerico — The strength and soul of modern Barolo
Based in Monforte d’Alba, Domenico Clerico is one of the leading figures in the evolution of modern Barolo. Since the 1980s, his wines have stood out for their technical finesse, cru specificity, and bold interpretation of Nebbiolo, blending tradition with innovation.
His estate today continues to produce intense, age-worthy, and expressive wines from some of the most prestigious vineyards in the appellation.
Philosophy and winemaking
Clerico focused on expressing each site’s identity through meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and thoughtful cellar practices. The estate employs long macerations, temperature-controlled fermentations, and aging in barriques, often new, especially for the top cuvées.
Each parcel is vinified separately, with the goal of crafting refined yet powerful wines that can evolve beautifully over time.
Wine style
The wines are structured, rich, and focused, with Nebbiolo’s tannins finely woven into a dense, expressive core. Fruit is pure and intense, oak is present but integrated, and the wines offer tremendous aging potential.
This is a modern but respectful take on Barolo, where each cru has its own personality and depth.
