Founded in 1999 in Porrera by the Castellví Figuerola family, Celler de l’Encastell is a rooted family project, now passionately led by Raimon Castellví and Carme Figuerola. The estate, consisting of 8 ha terraced in slate (llicorella), cultivates its own historical plots (Mas d’en Caçador, Mas d’en Ferran, Els Arbres), with complete control from vineyard to cellar.
With an artisanal vision, the estate focuses on manual harvesting, parcel-based vinification in modern stainless steel tanks located in the old village building, and aging in French barrels placed against the rock. Fermentations occur naturally, without unnecessary additives, to preserve the raw expression of the terroir.
The vines – some of which are centuries old – are planted on typical fractured slate soils at 500 m altitude. Mas d’en Caçador (2 ha) offers the most mineral expression, Mas d’en Ferran (5 ha) hosts Merlot, Cabernet, Syrah, and Grenache, and Els Arbres (1 ha planted in 2008) completes the ensemble with youth and finesse.
Marge: the entry wine, warm and rich, a blend of Grenache, Merlot, Cabernet, Carignan, Syrah, aged 6 to 8 months in barrels.
Roquers de Porrera: more intense expression of slate, elegant and concentrated.
Samsó de Porrera: centenary Carignan, structure and pure expression.
Roquers de Garnatxa: parcel-based Grenache, finesse and freshness.
The wines of l’Encastell are concentrated, deep, and structured, with a marked mineral signature, ripe tannins, sapid freshness, and notes of black fruits, spices, and garrigue. They offer an excellent balance between strength and elegance, a faithful reflection of the family Priorat.
