In the village of Chassagne-Montrachet, few names command as much quiet respect as Michel Niellon. A family-run domaine since the 1950s, it produces Chardonnays of remarkable poise, purity, and longevity, with a style that has remained faithful to its roots while subtly evolving.

A legacy of dedication and discretion

Founded by Michel Niellon, the domaine is now in the hands of Michel and his son-in-law Jean-Claude Tabordet. Together, they farm around 7.5 hectares in Chassagne, with select holdings in Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, crafting wines that capture the truth of their parcels without embellishment.

Prestigious terroirs, tended with care

The estate includes celebrated premiers crus such as Les VergersLes Chaumées, and Les Champs Gains, along with a precious plot in Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru. Limestone-rich soils and low-intervention viticulture allow each site to speak with clarity and depth.

Style: elegance, restraint, and minerality

Niellon’s wines are known for their tension and precision, with very limited use of new oak, ensuring the minerality and freshness shine through. They are chiseled, aromatic, and quietly powerful, improving beautifully with age.

Signature cuvées

  • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Vergers” – floral, precise, saline.

  • Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru “Les Chaumées” – richer, smoky, structured.

  • Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru – layered, intense, supremely age-worthy.

  • Bourgogne Blanc – accessible, yet crafted with real intent.

A philosophy of silent excellence

There is no flashiness here – just an unwavering commitment to balance, clarity, and terroir fidelity. Michel Niellon’s wines are for those who appreciate subtle depth and long-lived grace, Burgundy at its most essential.
