Domaine Les Vins de Vienne – Reviving a Legendary Rhône Terroir

Located in the northern Rhône Valley near the historic town of Vienne, Domaine Les Vins de Vienne has become a key figure in the revival of the Seyssuel vineyard since its foundation in 1996. Once neglected, this terroir is now at the center of a passionate effort to reveal the complexity and power of its steep alluvial and clay-limestone slopes.

The estate spans about 25 hectares, mostly in Seyssuel (around 12 hectares), with the remainder in surrounding appellations such as IGP Collines Rhodaniennes and other northern Rhône crus. Vineyard management is meticulous and sustainable, with careful pruning and strict hand harvesting to select perfectly ripe grapes.

The flagship grape is Syrah, which produces deeply elegant reds here, complemented by Viognier, a white variety known for aromatic, rich yet fresh wines. Other traditional grapes such as Marsanne, Roussanne, and occasionally Grenache enrich the blends.

Winemaking combines traditional expertise with modern precision: fermentations occur in stainless steel or concrete tanks, with temperature control and extended macerations to extract finesse and structure without excess. Aging is done in barrels and demi-muids, often used barrels, adding roundness and complexity while preserving fruit purity.

Signature Wines

Sotanum Rouge
The flagship cuvée, 100% Syrah from old vines on Seyssuel’s slopes. It is distinguished by deep aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, white pepper, and a saline minerality. The palate is powerful with silky tannins and refreshing acidity, promising excellent aging potential.

Sotanum Blanc
A blend dominated by Viognier with some Marsanne, this white reveals fine floral and stone fruit aromas—white flowers, apricot, yellow peach—with a full texture and a long saline finish. Aged on fine lees for added roundness.

Héluicum Rouge
A blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvèdre offering a fruitier and sunnier expression, with spicy notes, garrigue herbs, and a balance between power and softness. Ideal for lovers of classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape or Côtes-du-Rhône styles.

Taburnum Blanc
A fresher, floral white mainly from Viognier and Roussanne, vinified to preserve crispness and fruit purity. Perfect for pairing with seafood and light Mediterranean cuisine.
