A visionary house since 1823
Located in Magrè, in the heart of Alto Adige, the Alois Lageder estate has embodied the viticultural excellence of northern Italy for six generations. But it is under the impetus of Alois Lageder, a visionary and humanist figure, that the estate has become a world reference for biodynamic wine. Today, his son Clemens Lageder continues this adventure with the same rigor and a deeply committed spirit.
An exceptional alpine terroir
Between the Dolomites and the Mediterranean, Alto Adige benefits from a unique microclimate: generous sunshine, cool nights, varied altitudes (up to 1,300 meters), and an impressive diversity of soils (limestone, schist, glacial moraines). This geological complexity allows for the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties, particularly noble and expressive white varieties.
A radically living philosophy
More than just an estate, Alois Lageder is an ecosystem. A pioneer of Demeter-certified biodynamic viticulture since the 2000s, the estate cultivates the vine in symbiosis with nature, in a holistic approach: agroforestry, animal traction, polyculture, livestock, compost, lunar cycles... here, every gesture aims to strengthen the balance of life.
Grape varieties and plots
The estate cultivates 55 hectares on its own and collaborates with about a hundred small partner winegrowers on approximately 90 additional hectares, all supported in their transition to biodynamics.
Iconic grape varieties:
Whites: Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon, Viognier
Reds: Lagrein, Schiava, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Tannat
Remarkable plots:
Löwengang: iconic limestone locality, from which the most prestigious cuvées originate
Porer, Krafuss, Haberle: highly distinctive parcels, vinified separately
Natural vinifications and artisanal precision
Vinification follows the same principle of respect: indigenous yeasts, long macerations, little or no filtration, minimal sulfur. Vinifications are gravitational, extractions gentle, and aging is done in foudres, amphorae, or concrete vats according to the needs of each wine. The cellar, designed according to bioconstruction principles, is energy positive.
Iconic cuvées
Löwengang Chardonnay: iconic cuvée since 1984, rivaling the greatest white Burgundies. Complex, saline, vibrant.
Krafuss Pinot Noir: finesse, precision, and tension on the heights of Sankt Michael.
Porer Pinot Grigio: parcel-based approach and partial skin maceration, revealing the full depth of the grape variety.
Comets & Cosmos: innovative range of biodynamic, free, and committed négociant wines.
Why choose Alois Lageder?
Because it reconciles art, terroir, and environmental consciousness. Because it combines alpine precision and Italian sensuality. Because it is among the greatest names in living wine in Europe.
Alois Lageder is much more than a wine: it is a philosophy to be savored.
