Domaine des Lambrays – The Grand Cru Elegance of Morey-Saint-Denis

A Historic Estate Taken Over by LVMH

Located in Morey-Saint-Denis, the Domaine des Lambrays traces its origins back to the 14th century, but its current structure dates from the late 19th century. After modernization by the Saier brothers in the 1980s, it became part of the LVMH group in 2014, with a commitment to heritage preservation and quality enhancement.

The technical direction has been managed since 2019 by Jacques Devauges (formerly of Clos de Tart), who has introduced a new level of oenological and viticultural rigor.

The Clos des Lambrays – an Almost Perfect Monopole Grand Cru

The estate is centered around the legendary Clos des Lambrays, a fragmented Grand Cru but held at 8.66 ha (almost a monopole). The vines are southeast-facing, on a gentle slope of clay-limestone soil, between 250 and 320 m altitude. The average age of the vines exceeds 40 years.

For several years, the estate has been in biodynamic conversion, with horse plowing, thoughtful grassing, and natural phytosanitary care.

Precision Vinification & Aging

Manual harvesting, partial destemming depending on the vintage, gentle maceration, slow infusion. Aging lasts about 18 months in barrels (about 50% new). The style aims for elegance over power, with subtle fruit, chiseled tannins, and a saline finish.

A Racy, Complex & Long-Lived Style

The Clos des Lambrays is a wine of nuance, length, and depth, never demonstrative. It shines with its aerial structure, nose of red fruits & sweet spices, and a mineral finish.

Key Cuvées and Personalities

  • Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru: signature cuvée, finesse, verticality, exceptional aging (20–30 years).

  • Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Les Loups: blend of young vines from the Clos, more accessible.

  • Jacques Devauges: craftsman of a new era of precision at the estate.
