An elegant vintage dominated by Merlot on limestone
Château de la Tour is a discreet estate located on the limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion. For several decades, it has been developing precise winemaking that respects the terroir, focusing on fruity expression and tannic finesse.
Terroir & grape varieties: finesse of limestone and Merlot
The vineyard covers about 15 hectares, planted on clay-limestone-gravel soils typical of the first slopes. A blend dominated by Merlot (≈ 80 %), accompanied by Cabernet Franc (≈ 15 %) and sometimes a hint of Cabernet Sauvignon (≈ 5 %), to offer both roundness, tension, and structure.
Viticulture & philosophy: sobriety and typicity
Sustainable viticulture, with temporary cover crops between rows, manual harvesting in several passes according to ripeness, and rigorous sorting of the berries. Constant efforts to convey the typicity of the place, vintage after vintage.
Vinification & aging: balance between fruit and elegance
Vinifications in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, long fermentation with gentle pump-overs. Aging 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels, 40 to 60% of which are new. The sought-after style: finesse, precision, depth without excess.
Iconic cuvées
Château de la Tour Rouge: the grand wine, elegant and structured, notes of black cherry, plum, undergrowth, graphite, and sweet spices. Silky tannins, saline finish.
Parcel Cuvée / Old Vines (occasional): from older vines, often denser, expressive, and with strong aging potential.
