A liquorous treasure with aristocratic charm
Château de Fargues, a discreet jewel of the Sauternes appellation, is a prestigious property owned by the Lur-Saluces family. Rediscovered in exceptional condition in the 19th century, the estate today embodies a rare vision of power, elegance, and finesse, expressing the excellence of the aged terroir.
Terroir & grape varieties: elegant sweetness on gravel and sand
The vineyard extends over approximately 14 ha, planted on mixed soils of gravel, sand, and clay, on the banks of the Garonne. The grape composition is 100% Sémillon, for optimal concentration in botrytis. A climate conducive to refined sweet wines.
Viticulture & philosophy: precision and patience
Sustainable viticulture, hand harvesting in parcel selection, often in multiple passes to pick only the berries affected by noble rot. A message of balance between richness and tension, an expression of aristocratic indulgence.
Vinification & aging: tradition and length
Delicate pressing, slow fermentation in barrels, then aging in oak barrels for 24 to 30 months. No use of fining or extensive filtration: the wine is left to mature naturally, to preserve its texture and depth.
Iconic cuvées
Château de Fargues: deep golden color, aromas of candied apricot, dried fruits, honey, and sweet spices. Intense and finely balanced palate, remarkably balanced saline freshness with the richness of the sugar. Long finish on walnut and gingerbread.
Château de Fargues "Vieilles Vignes" (occasional): selection of old parcels, more concentrated wine, with strong aging potential.
Clos de Fargues (very rare): prestigious cuvée, expressive, rigorously aged, often produced in small exceptional quantities.
