Founded in the 1990s by the singer Lluís Llach and the lawyer Enric Costa, Celler Vall Llach was born from a social project aimed at revitalizing Porrera, a village with a struggling economy. Their first harvest dates back to 1998, the first bottles to 2000. Today, Albert Costa, son of Enric, an agricultural engineer and oenologist with international experience, embodies the 2nd generation, combining modernity and respect for the terroir.
Philosophy & viticulture
The winery is based on parcel micro-production, with rigorous control and voluntary limitation of expansion. The work is done manually, often with the help of horses, on extreme slopes. Natural fermentations and aging in steel, barrels, amphorae, or concrete vats are used according to the needs of each cuvée.
Terroir & vineyards
At the heart of the DOQ Priorat, in the nine villages, Vall Llach cultivates 65 ha in Porrera, planted on llicorella soil (schist arenas). The altitude, low rainfall, and terraced vineyards confer remarkable minerality and tension.
Iconic cuvées
Vall Llach (Trossos): flagship cuvée, powerful and elegant, from old vines.
Mas de la Rosa Gran Vinya Classificada: exceptional parcel, from a perched "masía", pure expression of the terroir.
Mas d’en Caçador: high-altitude carignan, mineral and structured.
Porrera Vi de Vila: native grenaches and carignans, reflection of the village wine.
Embruix: blend of young vines, ample, accessible, and fruity.
Aigua de Llum: pastel Viognier, homage to Miquel Martí i Pol.
Maria de Cal Vall: dry rancio wine from old grenaches, traditional solera.
Wine style
The wines of Vall Llach are characterized by their minerality, elegant power, aromatic purity and a balance between tradition and innovation. The reds combine black fruits, spices, and stony tension, while the whites and solera wines reveal unique identity and finesse.
