Domaine Jean Grivot – The perfect balance between intensity and refinement
Located in Vosne-Romanée, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, the Domaine Jean Grivot is one of those Burgundy estates that combine rigor, consistency, and deep knowledge of their terroirs. Since the 1990s, Étienne Grivot has been leading the family estate, now assisted by his daughter Mathilde Grivot, representing the new generation.
The vineyard covers about 15 hectares, entirely in Pinot Noir, and stretches from Nuits-Saint-Georges to Chambolle-Musigny, with prestigious climates: Vosne-Romanée, Échezeaux, Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot, and the 1er Cru Aux Brûlées.
Working methods & winemaking
The viticulture is reasoned, with a deep respect for the vine and the soil. The vines are grassed, worked manually, and the harvest is entirely done by hand with careful sorting.
In the cellar, the winemaking is precise and patient: partial destemming depending on the year, long macerations, measured punching down and pumping over. Fermentations are spontaneous (indigenous yeasts) and the aging is done in oak barrels (30 to 40% new wood) for about 18 months.
The Grivot style, very recognizable, combines straightness, density, fruit brightness, and mineral tension. These are wines that require a few years of aging but evolve magnificently over time.
