Founded in 1976 by Sergio Monti at 550 m above sea level, on slopes too steep for mechanization, Cantina Monti is located in Cademario, in Ticino. It operates approximately 4.7 ha of vineyards, mainly Merlot from old vines, cultivated with a philosophy of low yields and great rigor in the vineyard.
The estate advocates respect for the fruit: manual harvesting, gravity treatment (without pumps), minimal filtration, fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks (< 30 °C) with manual pump-overs, controlled macerations, and aging in barrels, depending on the grape variety and desired style.
Rovere (Merlot DOC): structured, round, with supple tannins and beautiful fruity notes.
Il Canto della Terra (Merlot parcel selection, > 45 years): careful aging, pronounced terroir, concentrated and elegant.
Malcantone Rosso dei Ronchi: blend of Merlot and Bordeaux varieties (Cabernet Franc, Carminoir, Ancellotta, Diolinoir), complex and balsamic.
Malcantone Bianco di Cademario: white wine revealed by cryomaceration, aged in barrels, with great aromatic richness.
SM: "family reserve" wine, blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, density and finesse.
Canvée Dinamic: Merlot from a biodynamic micro-parcel, natural fermentation, without sulfites.
Seda Negra: sweet Merlot wine, raisined then fortified with grappa, aged 24 months—perfect with dark chocolate or cigars.
Cantina Monti wines combine elegant power, supple fruit, and refined structure, all from Ticino Merlot: they reveal roundness, balance, and precision, while respecting the expression of the high-altitude terroir. The reds are structured without aggressiveness, the whites are aromatic and well-defined.
