Founded in 1896 in Balavaud (Vétroz) by Urbain Germanier, the operation remains family-owned today. Jean-René Germanier, an oenologist, has been partnered since 1993 with his nephew Gilles Besse, initiating a modernization respectful of the terroir. On nearly 60 ha, they passionately manage a modern cellar built in 1994 and expanded in 2013.

Philosophy & viticulture

Pioneers of sustainable viticulture, they have eliminated synthetic products and obtained Bio Suisse certification for the entire vineyard. The work in the vineyard is mechanical (horses) and manual, with plowing, yield control, and gentle practices aimed at preserving biodiversity. Parcel care, a reasoned approach, and longevity are at the heart of their ambition.

Oenology & methods

Cellar led by Richard Riand, fermentations are carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks or barrels depending on the cuvées. The reds undergo cold maceration, regular punch-downs, and barrel aging for selected cuvées only. The white wines ferment on lees, with delayed stirring to preserve aromas and light texture.

Terroirs & grape varieties

Located on slopes of black schist, glacial gravel, and moraine, the cellar highlights indigenous grape varieties: Chasselas (Fendant), Amigne, Petite Arvine, Johannisberg, Humagne blanche/rouge, Cornalin, Pinot Noir, Gamay, Syrah, Merlot, Gamaret, Païen. The geological richness allows for a wide and elegant palette.

Iconic cuvées

  • Fendant Les Terrasses (Chasselas): Grand Cru, mineral and tense.

  • Clos de la Couta Pinot Noir: exceptional parcel, silky and refined profile.

  • Cayas Syrah Réserve: high-end Syrah, selected, barrel aging, fruity and spicy expression.

  • Baroq Réserve: structured red blend, gourmet.

  • Cornalin Réserve: fruity, fine tannins, and aromatic depth.

  • Other cuvées: Petite Arvine, Amigne Mitis (SGN), Humagne, Johannisberg, Merlot, Divico, etc.

Wine style

They combine purity, minerality, alpine freshness, and parcel precision. The whites are flavorful and tense, the reds articulated and elegant. The discreet aging ensures subtlety and drinkability while offering remarkable aging potential.
