Founded in 2002 by Joan Domènech, Bodega Vinyes Domenech is located in the wildest part of the Montsant appellation, in Catalonia. The estate is committed to protecting the local biodiversity and producing wines from old Grenache vines in a pure, fine, and expressive style.
Location and Philosophy
The estate is nestled in a landscape of Mediterranean forest, at over 450 meters altitude, between the natural parks of Serra de Llaberia and Montsant. Joan Domènech adopted ecological and biodynamic viticulture early on, with particular attention to soil regeneration and ecosystem preservation.
Vineyard and Terroir
The 13 hectares of vines are planted on clay-limestone, schist, and sandstone soils, surrounded by pines, almond trees, and wild herbs. The estate primarily cultivates Garnacha Negra, Garnacha Peluda, Cariñena, as well as Garnacha Blanca for its whites. The vines are 50 to 90 years old, non-irrigated, and cultivated on terraces.
Vinification and Aging
The harvest is manual, with meticulous sorting in the vineyard. Fermentations are spontaneous, in stainless steel or wooden vats, with gentle macerations. Aging is done in foudres, amphorae, clay jars, or barrels, depending on the wine's identity, always with a desire for transparency and subtlety.
Iconic Cuvées
Furvus: Grenache and Carignan, velvety texture, black fruits, tension.
Teixar: Old vine Garnacha Peluda, intense, mineral, signature of the estate.
Bancal del Bosc: Floral and spicy red, gourmet and digestible.
Mad for Garnatxa: Pure Garnacha Negra, fresh, fruity, crunchy.
Rita: Gastronomic white of Garnacha Blanca, ample and saline.
Style and Recognition
The wines of Vinyes Domenech reflect the vibrant energy of Montsant, with a pure expression of Grenache and a balance between structure, finesse, and freshness. The estate is recognized for its environmental sensitivity, its delicate and sincere style, and for being among the most beautiful addresses in Catalonia for high-end organic wine.
