Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils — Energy and soul in Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Founded in 1963 by Raymond Usseglio, the domaine is now led by his son Stéphane Usseglio, a leading figure in Châteauneuf’s new generation. With 24 hectares of vines, including many centenarian plots, the estate has embraced biodynamic farming since 2010.

Stéphane’s approach blends Rhône tradition with a bold, free-spirited philosophy focused on purity, balance, and energy in the wines.

Philosophy and winemaking

Vineyards are worked by hand, with no chemicals, using biodynamic preparations and lunar cycles. Grapes are harvested manually and vinified by parcel. In the cellar, Stéphane uses concrete vats, large oak casks, demi-muids, amphorae, and stoneware jars, depending on the cuvée.

All fermentations are native, with gentle extraction and minimal sulphur use. Each wine follows its own path — always respectful of the grape and the vintage.

Wine style

The wines show southern richness with lifted energy, ripe fruit, spice, and refined textures. Reds are deep, velvety, and expressive without heaviness. Whites are rare but compelling — round yet saline and vibrant.

Some cuvées, labeled as Vin de France, reflect Stéphane’s more experimental, natural side — raw, emotional wines made with heart.
