Located in the heart of Margaux, Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is a Third Grand Cru Classé of 1855, owned by the Zuger family since 1955. Jean-Luc Zuger currently manages it with a vision faithful to tradition, while constantly seeking elegance and precision. This iconic estate produces racy and charming wines, renowned for their fruity depth, aromatic brilliance, and aging potential.

A terroir of gravelly purity

The 30-hectare vineyard rests on deep gravel soils, with a clay-limestone subsoil sometimes ferruginous, ensuring optimal drainage and slow, complete ripening of the grapes. The typically Médoc grape variety highlights Cabernet Sauvignon (about 50%), accompanied by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and a bit of Petit Verdot. This terroir gives the wines a noble structure, floral finesse, and mineral intensity.

Rigorous and respectful cultivation

Viticulture is conducted in a reasoned manner with great care given to each plot. Harvesting is manual, followed by meticulous sorting to keep only the finest grapes. Fermentation is done with indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, in an effort to preserve the wine's identity as much as possible. Vinifications are carried out in thermo-regulated concrete and stainless steel vats, adapted to each batch.

Demanding aging, the estate's signature

Aging extends over 14 to 16 months, in 100% French oak barrels, the majority of which are new (up to 80 to 100%). This barrel aging brings volume and complexity while respecting the fruit. The goal is a harmonious integration of the wood, without masking the soul of the terroir.

Style & emblematic cuvées

Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry: a wine of balance and depth, with a nose of ripe black fruits, violet, licorice, and blond tobacco. The palate is ample, velvety, supported by a mineral framework and great length. Its aging capacity is remarkable: 15 to 25 years depending on the vintage.
La Dame de Malescot, the estate's second wine, offers a more supple version, accessible from 5 to 7 years.
