Château Chauvin, sometimes nicknamed "the little Angélus," is a family estate located in the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, east of Saint-Émilion. Owned by Gilles and Christine Casalta since the 1980s, the château has established itself as a Grand Cru Classé, combining finesse and intensity while maintaining a respectful approach to living things.

Terroir and grape varieties: pure limestone expression
The vineyard covers about 12 hectares, on clay-limestone soils from the Saint-Émilion plateau. This terroir imparts salinity, tension, and depth to the wines. The typical grape composition includes 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, highlighting the elegance of Merlot with the freshness and structure of Cabernet Franc.

Philosophy & winemaking methods
Château Chauvin practices responsible viticulture, with certification in organic and biodynamic agriculture in conversion. The harvest is manual, followed by parcel-based vinification in stainless steel and concrete vats. The aging lasts from 16 to 20 months in French oak barrels (about 50% new), aiming to reveal the purity of the fruit and the minerality of the terroir without overripeness.

Flagship cuvée

  • Château Chauvin Grand Cru Classé: intense garnet color, aromas of black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry), subtly spicy notes, graphite, and truffle. The palate, fleshy and tense, unfolds silky tannins and a saline finish of great persistence. A wine for aging, classic and imbued with sophistication.
