Refined tradition, granite-soil expression, and racy vinosity

Located in the prestigious vineyard of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes spans 35 hectares of varied soils: rolled pebbles, clays, sands, and sandstones, offering a complex and expressive terroir. The estate embodies the balance between traditional style and modern precision, producing exceptional red and white wines.

Terroir & grape varieties

Diversity of terroirs: typical pebble soils, clay-limestone areas, and sandstone outcrops. The red grape varieties include Grenache (majority), Syrah, Mourvèdre, with a hint of Cinsault, Counoise, Vaccarèse. In white, there are Grenache blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, and Muscardin.

Viticulture & winemaking

Sustainable viticulture with manual harvesting, parcel selection. Varied aging depending on the cuvées: reds aged 12 to 18 months in vats and foudres, sometimes a percentage in oak barrels. The whites benefit from low-temperature fermentation and aging 8 to 12 months in stainless steel vats and barrels.

Style & aging potential

  • Red: rich aromatic palette between red and black fruits, spices, garrigue, smoky and mineral notes, silky tannins, and a persistent finish. Aging potential 10–20 years.

  • White: floral elegance, notes of ripe citrus, white honey, beautiful freshness, and lively structure. To be enjoyed between 3 and 15 years, depending on the cuvée.

Iconic cuvées

  • Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes Rouge: flagship wine, generous, balanced, signature of the house.

  • Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes Blanc: elegant and refined expression of southern whites.

  • Cuvée Saint-Luc: second red wine more accessible, pure fruit, and charming style.
