Domaine Madeloc – Sea-Infused Wines from Banyuls and Collioure

Nestled in Banyuls-sur-Mer, at the foot of the Pyrenees in southern France, Domaine Madeloc is a benchmark estate in the Collioure and Banyuls appellations. Acquired in 2002 by Rhône Valley winemaker Pierre Gaillard, the estate now spans around 20 hectares of steep, terraced vineyards carved into schist slopes facing the Mediterranean Sea.

With abundant sunshine, maritime influence and poor, mineral-rich soils, the terroir is ideal for producing intense, textured wines. The vineyards are cultivated by hand due to the steep terrain, with low yields and sustainable practices—no synthetic herbicides or pesticides.

In the cellar, vinification is tailored to each variety and plot. Reds undergo long maceration with gentle punch-downs. Whites and rosés are fermented at low temperatures to retain freshness and aromatics. Aging takes place in tanks, demi-muids, or oak barrels depending on the desired profile.

Domaine Madeloc produces dry wines under the Collioure AOC and fortified sweet wines under Banyuls AOC. All reflect the tension and salinity of schist soils and the estate’s unique coastal location.
