Domaine de Villaine – The Discreet Nobility of Bouzeron
Family Heritage and Burgundian Vision
Founded in the 1970s in Bouzeron by Aubert de Villaine, co-manager of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, this family estate is committed to a quest for authenticity, away from the spotlight. Today, the new generation, with Pierre de Benoist, continues to shine a light on this discreet vineyard that has become a reference in Côte Chalonnaise.
Precise Terroirs and Respect for Life
Located around Bouzeron, the vineyard (about 22 ha) relies on clay-limestone terroirs at altitude, where the grape varieties reveal the Burgundian typicity:
Golden Aligoté (unique to Bouzeron)
Pinot Noir
Chardonnay
Since 1986, the estate has been certified in organic farming, with rigorous soil work, moderate yields, and a low-intervention approach in the cellar.
Bouzeron: Aligoté in Majesty
The estate is one of the great ambassadors of Golden Aligoté, a forgotten grape variety rediscovered thanks to their Bouzeron cuvée, crafted with finesse to reveal minerality, tension, and great aromatic purity.
The red wines (Mercurey, Santenay, Bourgogne Côte Chalonnaise) display a straight, floral, elegant style, with true aging potential.
Notable Cuvées and Signatures
Bouzeron: the estate's signature wine, vibrant, saline, and chiseled Aligoté.
Mercurey “Les Montots”: deep Pinot Noir, with notes of black fruits and spices.
Rully, Santenay, Côte Chalonnaise: expressive, straight, and pure Chardonnays.
