Domaine Danjou-Banessy – The expression of the Roussillon terroir

A family heritage serving the terroir
Domaine Danjou-Banessy is located in Espira-de-l’Agly, north of Perpignan, in the Agly valley. Founded in 2001 by Benoit and Sébastien Danjou, it is based on a family heritage of several generations of winemakers. The estate covers 17 hectares of fragmented vineyards, aged from 15 to over 100 years, cultivated according to biodynamic principles and certified organic farming.

A diversity of soils for a diversity of wines
The estate's vineyards are planted on a variety of soils, including schist, clay-limestone, quartz, sand, silt, and rolled pebbles. Each plot is cultivated specifically, respecting the unique characteristics of its terroir. This approach allows for the production of wines that faithfully reflect the expression of each location.

Respectful viticulture and natural winemaking
Harvesting is done manually, with rigorous sorting of the grapes. Winemaking is conducted in a non-interventionist manner, with spontaneous fermentations thanks to indigenous yeasts. The addition of sulfur is kept to a minimum, and the wines are aged in used barrels to preserve their purity and authenticity.

Iconic cuvées

  • Coste: A white wine 100% Macabeu, aged in barrels for 12 to 14 months. It offers a clear color with green reflections, a nose with aromas of white fruits and honey, and a gourmet and mineral palate.

  • Roboul: A blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache, expressing floral and spicy notes, with a fresh and fruity palate.

  • La Truffière: Available in red and white, this cuvée comes from vines aged 60 to 80 years, cultivated on schist and limestone soils. The wines are powerful, with a beautiful tannic structure and a long finish.

  • Supernova: A rare and sought-after cuvée, produced in limited quantities, offering exceptional aromatic complexity and depth.

  • Rivesaltes: The estate also preserves traditional Rivesaltes, natural sweet wines aging in solera, showcasing the ancestral know-how of the region.
