Created in 1997 by Bill Harlan and Bob Levy (also the founders of Harlan Estate), BOND Estate carefully selects five exceptional terroirs in Napa (Melbury, Vecina, St. Eden, Pluribus, and Quella). The wines are single-vineyard, or nearly so, Cabernet Sauvignons, fully reflecting each of these sites.
Philosophy & Winemaking
Burgundian "grand cru" approach: focus on the terroir with a single grape variety, Cabernet Sauvignon.
Very strict selection: each cuvée comes 90–100% from the same vineyard, with a second wine called Matriarch made from barrels not selected.
Very low yields, plots of 3–5 ha, 450–600 cases per cuvée/year.
Traditional winemaking, aging in barrels, followed by long aging, ready to evolve in the cellar for 20 years or more.
Iconic Cuvées
Melbury: expresses plush red fruits and floral nuances, from steep parcels north of Lake Hennessey.
Vecina: mineral and fruity intensity, rooted in a shallow rocky subsoil.
St. Eden: finesse and balance, situated halfway between elegance and power.
Pluribus: elevated at altitude on Spring Mountain, dense and structured.
Quella: derived from an ancient riverbed, with a more refined expression.
Matriarch: second wine, made from barrels from the five sites, offering an accessible glimpse of the BOND style.
Wine Style
BOND wines are elegant, deep, and racy, combining tannic power, fruit purity, and mineral expression. Each of the cuvées embodies the typicity of its vineyard with exceptional aging potential, often exceeding 20 years.
