The Mediterranean elegance of Mourvèdre embraced by limestone
Perched in the Sainte-Baume massif, Château de Pibarnon embodies the quintessence of traditional Bandol. The estate, initially dedicated to olive-growing experiments in the 18th century, was joined by the Desseauve winemakers in 1990 and has since aspired to reveal the power and finesse of Mourvèdre on limestone terroir.

Terroir & grape varieties: Mourvèdre on limestone plateaus
The vines are planted in high density on slightly stony white limestone soils, at about 300 m altitude. The king grape variety is Mourvèdre (≥ 85%), supported by blends of Grenache, Cinsault, and Carignan to complement the vinosity and elegance.

Viticulture & philosophy: balance, patience, and respect
Sustainable viticulture, vertical soil work, grass cover, manual harvesting with rigorous sorting. The approach favors the slow ripening of Mourvèdre, the freshness of the mornings, and parcel selection to express each locality.

Vinification & aging: mineral tension & pure expression
Vinification in stainless steel or concrete vats, with long maceration up to 30 days depending on the parcel. Gentle pressing, slow and adventurous fermentation. Aging for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels (50% new). The desired style: concentration, saline tension, fine matter, and Mediterranean length.

Iconic cuvées

  • Château de Pibarnon: the great red wine, powerful and refined, aromas of wild blackberry, garrigue, graphite, sweet spices, and silky touch. Saline finish and crystalline structure.

  • Château de Pibarnon Blanc (recent editions): rare Mediterranean white on Rolle and Clairette, fresh, floral, and stony.

  • Les Terres Rouges: micro-cuvée from more clay-gravelly areas, sunny expression of the estate, rounder and charming.
