Founded in 1892 by William Grant in Dufftown, The Balvenie remains one of the few Scottish single malt distilleries to master all stages of production on site. It embodies the living tradition of Speyside, a warm, smooth, and patiently crafted style.

Domain and Key Figures

Neighboring Glenfiddich but distinctly different, the distillery still belongs to the family group William Grant & Sons. Its identity is based on the work of David Stewart, master blender since 1974, who introduced practices like double maturation. He recently passed the torch to Kelsey McKechnie, while ensuring stylistic continuity.

Traditional Methods

The Balvenie is renowned for its five rare crafts: growing barley on the estate, traditional floor malting, a team of coopers, an in-house coppersmith, and on-site aging. This level of autonomy has become exceptional in Scotland.

Iconic Expressions

  • DoubleWood 12 Years: bourbon then sherry, smooth and balanced.

  • Caribbean Cask 14 Years: finished in rum casks, with exotic notes.

  • PortWood 21 Years: elegant, complex, finished in port pipes.

  • Tun 1509: blends of rare casks, in limited editions.

  • Balvenie Thirty: one of the finest expressions of Speyside maturity.

Heritage and Recognition

The Balvenie always favors manual work, long aging, and authenticity. It remains one of the most respected names in Speyside, both for enthusiasts and discerning collectors.
