British Tradition, Family Consistency, and Médoc Refinement

Château Langoa Barton, Grand Cru Classé since 1855, is one of the few Bordeaux crus that has remained under the same Barton family for over two centuries. The estate is currently managed by Anthony Barton, supported by Fiona Hay (oenologist) and Dominique Ury, technical manager. The style is characterized by discreet elegance and fidelity to tradition.

Terroir & Grape Varieties

The vineyard extends over 41 ha of deep gravel, consisting of rolled pebbles on a clay-limestone base, ensuring optimal drainage. The blend is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (~55%), Merlot (~35%), Petit Verdot (~7%), and Cabernet Franc (~3%), for a beautiful balance between power, fruit, and structure.

Philosophy & Winemaking

Sustainable viticulture, manual harvesting, and meticulous sorting in two passes. Vinification by plot in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, complemented by adapted punch-downs. The aging lasts 18 to 20 months in French barrels (≈ 50% new), with particular attention to finesse and maintaining the identity of the terroir.

Iconic Cuvées

  • Château Langoa Barton: The grand wine, characterized by a precise tannic structure, notes of blackcurrant, graphite, undergrowth, and spicy nuances. A balanced, elegant wine designed for aging.

  • Le Clos Barton: Second wine from young vines, more accessible when young, fruity and lively, while retaining the spirit of the family terroir.
