Golden glow, altitude freshness, and crystalline power
Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855, Château Rayne-Vigneau stands out as one of the most unique Sauternes due to the freshness and tension that run through its wines. Located in Bommes, on the heights of the appellation, the estate benefits from a complex and luminous terroir, marked by the rare presence of precious stones in the soils. Under the current direction of the estate's technical team, the property combines classicism and vertical expression.
A unique altitude terroir
The estate's vines extend over approximately 84 hectares, mainly on sandy and siliceous gravel mounds, rich in quartz and semi-precious stones. This terroir favors a fine expression of botrytis cinerea and produces wines with a stretched and vibrant profile. The microclimate, cooler than in other sectors of Sauternes, accentuates this verticality.
Viticulture & vinification
The harvest is done by successive selections, according to the development of botrytis. Vinification is conducted with precision, in barrels, then aging lasts about 18 months, with a significant proportion of new barrels (about 50%), aiming to provide structure without ever masking the fruit's momentum.
Style & iconic cuvée
Château Rayne-Vigneau: golden robe with bright reflections, nose of exotic fruits, candied zest, honey, saffron, warm stone. Tense palate, with sweetness perfectly balanced by saline minerality. Long lemony, pure, crystalline finish. Aging potential of 12 to 30 years, with peaks reached at full maturity.
A second wine, Madame de Rayne, allows for earlier access to the estate's elegance, in a more accessible version.
