A historic estate, revitalized with ambition by the Bréchet family
Founded in 1767, Château de Vaudieu is one of the few true castles of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Owned by the Meffre family since 1955, it is now in the hands of Laurent Bréchet, supported by his sister Élise Bréchet, representing the sixth family generation. The technical management has long benefited from the expertise of Philippe Cambie, whose stylistic imprint endures.
Terroir & grape varieties: diversity of soils and old vines
The estate covers 70 hectares, divided into 32 plots located on the finest terroirs of the appellation: sands, rolled pebbles, red sandstones, and limestones, at altitudes ranging from 85 to 125 meters. The main grape varieties are Grenache (mostly, often very old), Syrah, Mourvèdre for reds, and for whites, Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Clairette, and Bourboulenc.
Viticulture & philosophy: precision and parcel-based approach
Conducted in sustainable agriculture, the estate favors a very advanced parcel-based approach. Harvesting is manual, yields are deliberately limited, and each plot is vinified separately to best reveal the typicity of each soil and grape variety.
Vinification & aging: finesse and mastery of wood
Since 2013, fermentations take place in tulip-shaped concrete vats, allowing gentle extraction. The aging process is adapted to each cuvée, ranging from stainless steel vats to foudres, demi-muids, and barrels, for 12 to 18 months depending on the wine's profile. The goal is always to preserve the freshness and energy of the fruit.
Iconic cuvées
Château de Vaudieu Rouge: the estate's iconic cuvée, ample and elegant, with aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, and garrigue.
Val de Dieu: selection of the best plots of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. Structured, floral, and racy wine with a silky texture.
Amiral G.: pure Grenache from very old vines, a wine of exceptional finesse, a tribute to the estate's founder.
L’Avenue: single-plot Grenache raised with care, precise, vertical, and mineral.
Les Vieilles Roussanne (white): rich and tense white wine, with a long saline finish.
Clos du Belvédère (white): from a cool terroir, a bright and pure wine with remarkable aging potential.
