Founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, heir of the family that owns Sassicaia, Bodega Chacra is located in the Río Negro region, in the north of Argentine Patagonia. In this desert and windy climate, the Andean influence combined with biodynamic cultivation gives rise to Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays of rare finesse, far from the clichés of the New World.
Origins and Philosophy
Enchanted by an old forgotten vineyard planted in 1932, Piero Incisa set out to reveal the elegance of Pinot Noir in Argentina. From the start, he adopted a biodynamic approach, prioritizing natural balance, respect for living organisms, and very low yields.
Vineyards and Terroirs
The vines are located around Mainqué, in the Río Negro valley, between 220 and 250 meters above sea level. The dry climate, large temperature range, and sandy and alluvial soils favor slow ripening and great aromatic purity. The ungrafted vines (francs de pied) are a rare asset outside Europe.
Winemaking Methods
The harvest is manual, vinification is done by gravity, without additives, with indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction, and little or no new wood. Aging takes place in large barrels, concrete tanks, or amphorae, depending on the cuvée.
Iconic Cuvées
Treinta y Dos: old vines planted in 1932, depth, complexity, grace.
Cincuenta y Cinco: 1955, floral purity, velvety texture, mineral tension.
Barda: entry-level cuvée, expressive and fresh, superb value for money.
Mainqué Chardonnay: made with Jean-Marc Roulot, saline, energetic, chiseled.
Chacra Chardonnay: Burgundian aging, limestone purity, great class.
Style and Recognition
Chacra wines captivate with their transparency, energy, and mastery of elegance, contrary to powerful styles. Produced in limited quantities, they are today among the greatest wines of South America, regularly praised by international critics.
