Felton Road — Biodynamic Precision from Central Otago
Nestled in Bannockburn, Central Otago, Felton Road is a benchmark producer known for its elegant and terroir-driven wines made through certified biodynamic viticulture.
Philosophy and Viticulture
Since the 1990s, Felton Road has embraced a holistic and sustainable approach to farming. The estate uses no chemical inputs, raises its own animals, composts on-site, and integrates biodynamic preparations to maintain healthy soils and vines.
The guiding principle is "somewhereness" — the purest expression of place in every bottle.
Vineyards
Felton Road is composed of four distinct vineyard sites: Elms, Calvert, Cornish Point, and MacMuir. Each site brings unique character to the wines through diverse soils and carefully selected exposures, with a focus on Pinot Noir.
Wine Style
The wines are known for their finesse, purity, and structure. Fermentations are spontaneous, and wines are neither fined nor filtered, allowing the fruit and terroir to shine.
-
Pinot Noir: the flagship, with cuvées like Block 3, Block 5, Calvert, Cornish Point, and MacMuir. Silky and precise, with great aging potential.
-
Chardonnay: elegant and mineral, with subtle oak and a focus on freshness and texture.
-
Riesling: clean, vibrant, and expressive — made in both dry and off-dry styles with long aging capacity.
A Respected Estate
Felton Road is widely regarded as one of the world’s top Pinot Noir producers outside of Burgundy. Its commitment to sustainability, minimal intervention, and terroir expression make it a standout in New Zealand and beyond. The estate keeps production deliberately small, focusing on quality over quantity.
