Friedrich Becker — Pfalz Burgundy Master
History & Terroir
Founded from a mixed farm, the estate truly emerged in 1973 when Friedrich Becker Sr. began bottling his own wines. Today, his son Friedrich Wilhelm Becker leads the estate, carrying a multi-generational legacy. Located in Schweigen, on the German–French border, the vineyards benefit from exceptional exposure and a complex terroir of limestone, marl, and sandy soils, crafting wines unshackled from trends yet full of terroir.
Vineyard & Grape Varieties
The estate spans about 30 hectares devoted mostly to Burgundian varieties—Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay—supplemented by Riesling, Silvaner, Muscat, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet, and Merlot. Some parcels lie on the Alsatian side, contributing unique character to their wines.
Winemaking Philosophy
The estate’s philosophy is rooted in three pillars: instinct, experience, and tradition over trend. Pinot Noir is vinified either through barrel aging or in a more restrained style, aiming to let the terroir express itself. Top reds are only bottled four years after harvest to ensure aging potential.
Wine Style
Friedrich Becker wines stand out for their concentrated power, refined elegance, and pronounced mineral tension. Their Pinot Noirs show ripe tannins and intense red fruit, yet retain Burgundy-like elegance and a sleek profile.
