In the heart of Fläsch, a small gem of the Bündner Herrschaft, Daniel and Monika Marugg have been crafting mountain Pinots Noirs with a crystalline, straight, and vibrant style for over 30 years. Little publicized, their estate is one of the best-kept secrets of Swiss viticulture, sought after by knowledgeable enthusiasts for its wines of truth, emotion, and great aging potential.

A story of discretion and perfectionism

Established in 1988 in Fläsch, Daniel and Monika Marugg have patiently built an exemplary estate, run in organic without certification, with extreme care given to each vine and each barrel. On about 4 hectares, they produce wines that reflect their image: discreet, deep, uncompromising.

A mineral high-altitude terroir

The vines take root in gravelly and limestone soils, on the sunny foothills of Fläsch, between 550 and 650 meters above sea level. This terroir, bathed in light and refreshed by alpine breezes, offers a slow maturity, natural acidity, and a tense minerality, perfectly suited to Pinot Noir.

A jeweler's vinification

The grapes are hand-harvested, with rigorous sorting. Fermentations are spontaneous, with indigenous yeasts, in wood or stainless steel tanks. Macerations are slow and gentle, favoring infusion over extraction. Aging lasts 12 to 18 months in Burgundy barrels, with a small proportion of new wood, to support without masking.

A pure, unadulterated style

The Pinots Noirs signed by Marugg shine with their tension, straightness, and aromatic precision: small red fruits, a touch of bramble, fine spices, mineral framework. These are airy yet deep wines, with great longevity. Their natural balance appeals to lovers of both Burgundy and great Spätburgunder.
