Founded in 1760 by François Delamotte, Champagne Lanson is among the oldest houses. Renamed Lanson in 1837, it stands out for its uninterrupted tradition in the service of quality. The house focuses on historical transmission while innovating, notably with the Clos Lanson cuvée, made from massal vines in a clos, and on emblematic partnerships (Wimbledon, British royalty).

Key Figures

Jean-Pierre Cointreau has been the president since its acquisition by Lanson-BCC in 2006. Hervé Dantan, oenologist, embodies the stylistic signature: incisive freshness, precision, controlled aging.

Philosophy & Winemaking

Lanson adopts a unique philosophy based on non-malolactic fermentation: the wines retain a natural tension and great longevity. The harvests come from classified crus, the blends include a large proportion of reserve wines, and the aging on lees is extended (often 4–9 years). The prestige cuvées are aged even longer.

Terroirs & Vineyard

The brand operates or sources from over 140 hectares of Grands and Premiers Crus spread over the Côte des Blancs (Chardonnay), the Montagne de Reims, and the Vallée de la Marne (Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier), with a rigorous selection that respects the typicity of the terroirs.

Iconic Cuvées

  • The Black Label Brut NV: non-malo signature, balanced blend (majority Pinot Noir), aged for at least 4 years.

  • The Rosé & White Label: fruity and crisp, respectively rosé de saignée and dry white.

  • Blanc de Blancs NV: 100% Chardonnay, mineral and vibrant.

  • Vintage (e.g. 2009, 2013): prestige, long aging, grand cru expression.

  • Noble Cuvée: prestige vintage cuvée (since 1979), rival of the best aging wines.

  • Clos Lanson: unique terroir Champagne from an intra-muros Chardonnay clos in Reims.

Wine Style

Faithful to its non-malo method, Lanson offers champagnes with crisp and natural fruit, supported by a tense structure, a saline minerality, and a fine mousse. The wines develop aromatic purity and depth with age, while maintaining their liveliness.
