Terroir Rieslings, aromatic precision and mineral freshness

Established for several generations in Erden, at the heart of the German Mosel, Weingut Dr. Hermann has become one of the great names in German Riesling. The estate covers about 6.5 hectares on steep slopes classified among the most prestigious in the region: Erdener Treppchen, Erdener Prälat, and Ürziger Würzgarten. Now led by Christian Hermann, the house continues a tradition of excellence based on the purity, elegance, and unadorned expression of Riesling.

Terroir & grape variety

The red and blue slate soils, the dizzying slopes, and the south to southeast exposure offer ideal conditions for Riesling, the only grape variety cultivated here. Many vines are ungrafted, some centuries old, producing juices of great tension and rare aromatic complexity.

Viticulture & winemaking

The viticulture is demanding, with moderate yields, and manual harvesting in several passes (successive selections). Slow fermentations in stainless steel tanks, sometimes in large wooden barrels, are followed by aging on fine lees to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit.

Style & aging

The wines of the estate are straight, crystalline, with great precision, combining white fruits, citrus zest, flint, and marked minerality. From Kabinett to Beerenauslese, each cuvée has its own identity and can age between 10 and 30 years depending on the style.

Iconic cuvées

  • Dr. Hermann Riesling Trocken: fresh and tense entry-level.

  • Ürziger Würzgarten Kabinett: floral, spicy, very typical Mosel.

  • Erdener Treppchen Spätlese: immediate charm, indulgence, and balance.

  • Erdener Prälat Auslese & Beerenauslese: great richness, mineral depth, saline finish.
