Classified as Second Grand Cru in 1855, Château Brane-Cantenac embodies the timeless elegance of great Margaux wines. Its history dates back to the 18th century, but it was in the 19th century under the direction of Baron de Brane, nicknamed "the Napoleon of the vines," that the estate reached its peak. In 1925, it was acquired by the Lurton family, a great Bordeaux dynasty, and since 1992, Henri Lurton has been managing it with rigor, modernity, and attention to detail.
The 75-hectare vineyard rests on the deep gravel mounds of Cantenac, one of the most qualitative terroirs of Margaux. The grape variety is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, accompanied by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Carmenère, and Petit Verdot. The planting density, parcel selections, and meticulous vineyard work fully express the finesse of the place.
The winemaking is done parcel by parcel, in a modern gravity-fed vat room. The estate combines high technical precision with respect for natural balances, with viticulture in organic conversion. The aging takes place in French oak barrels (60 to 70% new) for 18 months, with constant attention to the expression of the fruit.
