Located in Ampuis, at the heart of the Côte-Rôtie appellation, Bernard Burgaud cultivates discretion and high standards. His estate, founded in the 1980s, remains one of the most authentic and consistent in the region, rejecting any trend and dispersion. Here, only one wine is produced, vintage after vintage, with the utmost fidelity to the terroir.

Vineyard and Terroir

The estate covers about 4 hectares, exclusively located on the granite terraced slopes of the Côte Brune. The vines, aged 20 to 50 years, are managed with sustainable practices on steep slopes, worked by hand. The grape variety is solely Syrah, sometimes complemented by a hint of Viognier (rare depending on the year).

Philosophy and Winemaking

Bernard Burgaud harvests manually, partially destems, and vinifies in a traditional manner: concrete vats, pump-overs, long macerations. The aging lasts 18 months in oak barrels (10–15% new), without excessive extraction or oakiness. No blending of plots, no special cuvée: one wine, each year, representative of its vintage.

Style and Recognition

His Côte-Rôtie is sought after for its straightforwardness, balance, pronounced structure, and aging potential. Never showy, it reflects the hand of a meticulous winemaker, serving his terroir. Appreciated by enthusiasts and sommeliers alike, the Burgaud style recalls the Côte-Rôtie of before the trend, sincere and faithful.
