Located in Canéjan, at the gates of Bordeaux, Château Séguin is one of the most dynamic estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Driven by the joint vision of the Calvet family, Patrick Naïm, and under the technical direction of Pierre Montegut, the estate stands out as a model of consistency and precision in a style that is both classic and contemporary.
A renaissance based on demand
Acquired in 1987, the estate has undergone a true metamorphosis thanks to heavy and constant investments. Pierre Montegut, also technical director of André Lurton's vineyards for over twenty years, brings his expertise to a meticulously restructured vineyard, to make the most of the 30 hectares of deep gravel.
An ideal gravel-clay terroir for great reds
The soils are composed of deep Günzian gravel, with clay and limestone substrates, ensuring excellent drainage and perfect thermal regulation. The grape varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%) – find a natural balance here, between maturity, freshness, and finesse.
Rigorous winemaking, thought parcel by parcel
Each parcel is hand-harvested at optimal maturity, sorted on a table, then vinified separately. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats with gentle pump-overs to extract color and the finesse of tannins. Maceration lasts on average 20 to 25 days. Aging then continues in French oak barrels (30 to 40% new) for 12 to 14 months, depending on the characteristics of the vintage and each lot.
A refined and balanced style
The wines of Château Séguin combine concentration and freshness, with a fleshy mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and aromas of black fruits, sweet spices, and a fine woody touch. A pure Bordeaux style, sincere, never demonstrative, but with exemplary consistency.
