The history of the Sylvain Cathiard et fils estate located in Côte de Nuits in Vosne Romanée began in 1920 when Sylvain's grandfather (Alfred Cathiard), after working at the Romanée Conti estate and the Lamarche estate, acquired several plots of vines in the very beautiful terroirs of the Côte de Nuits.
His son André, who joined the estate in 1940, developed bottling at the Cathiard estate and purchased a magnificent plot of vines in Vosne Romanée 1er cru Malconsorts (neighboring the Grand Cru La Tâche).
After creating a small estate in his name, Sylvain Cathiard took over the family vineyard heritage (5.5 ha) and succeeded his father in 1995. He now works with his son Sébastien and plans to gradually hand over the reins to him at the Cathiard estate.
