The wine of Meursault, mainly white, is a wine of great aromatic power and has a remarkable balance between richness and acidity.
A wine that can be drunk young but will reveal its full splendor with four to five years in the cellar.
Meursault offers real pleasure on the fruit in its youth up to 10 or 15 years. Then, it loses this spontaneity to reach the patina of age. Yet in 2006, the Bouchard house organized a tasting of old wines and offered for tasting a Meursault Charmes from 1846. The bottle was of stunning complexity. This clearly shows that a well-preserved Meursault 1er cru can be interesting to drink even 150 years after bottling!
The different climates :
- Meursault Perrières : many enthusiasts consider it the noblest of the premiers crus. It delivers a wine that is both tense and deep. The heart of the terroir could indeed claim to be classified as a grand cru. The wines from the Pierre Morey, Coche-Dury, or Roulot estates are the most sought after.
- Meursault Charmes : ample, generous, Charmes is the archetype of the great Meursault, like that of the Matrot estate with an extraordinary personality, built for aging.
- Meursault Genevrières : it is the finest and most elegant. The Comtes de Lafon estate offers a seductive and refined interpretation, while Antoine Jobard delivers a pure version.
