To the north of the Côte de Nuits, between Fixin and Morey-Saint-Denis, Gevrey-Chambertin is a promised land for any lover of great Pinot Noirs.
Very extensive, this appellation is one of the most well-known in the Côte de Nuits and has 9 grands crus: Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin, Ruchottes-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze, Chapelle-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin. It also has a premier cru, le Clos Saint-Jacques which can rival with the grands crus.
It is also famous for its premier cru, the Clos Saint-Jacques, which sometimes rivals the grands crus in terms of quality. The wines of Gevrey-Chambertin are distinguished by their power, complexity, and characteristic aromas of black fruits, violet, damp earth, and sometimes truffle. Their robust tannic structure gives them great aging potential, allowing them to evolve towards more subtle aromas and a more velvety texture over time.
The clay-limestone soils and the temperate climate of the region favor optimal ripening of the grapes, contributing to the excellence of these wines which are among the most sought after in Burgundy.
