Dark robe, fruity expression and oceanic freshness

Renowned Cru Bourgeois from Médoc, Château Potensac is a 40-hectare estate of contiguous vineyards, located between Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe. Owned by the Taillan group (Merlaut family), it is led by Jean-Philippe Janoueix, a committed oenologist, with a technical team focused on precision, balance, and Médoc identity.

Terroir & grape varieties

The vines thrive on a Günzian gravelly hill resting on a clay-limestone subsoil, benefiting from natural drainage and moderate oceanic influence. Classic blend composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (≈55%), Merlot (≈40%), and Petit Verdot (≈5%), with high planting density to optimize texture and concentration.

Viticulture & quality approach

Reasoned and plot-based viticulture, with controlled grassing, manual harvesting, and double sorting in the vineyard and cellar. Respect for biodiversity, limitation of inputs, and conscientious plot management aim to preserve the expression of the terroir.

Vinification & balanced aging

Separate vinification by grape varieties and plots, classic macerations (2 to 3 weeks) in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Aging for 14 to 18 months in French barrels (≈40% new wood), allowing the wine to be structured while preserving the fruity freshness.
