Merlot from the plateau, structured freshness and elegance from the right bank
Located on the heights of Lalande-de-Pomerol, Château Moncets is a 19-hectare estate whose origins date back to the 19th century. Since its acquisition and restructuring in the 21st century, it embodies a modern vision of viticulture on the right bank, combining environmental commitment, technical precision, and respect for the terroir. The estate is in organic conversion and is managed with constant attention to the natural balance of the vineyard.
The vines are planted on clay-sandy and clay-limestone soils, located at nearly 90 meters altitude. This elevation promotes freshness and slow ripening of the grapes. Merlot largely dominates the grape variety, accompanied by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon, offering a generous, fruity, and balanced substance.
The estate adopts sustainable and plot-based viticulture, with manual harvesting and fine soil management. No herbicides are used, and the approach aims to preserve biodiversity while revealing the typicity of the terroir. The vinification respects indigenous yeasts and follows a low-intervention logic.
Fermentations are slow and precise, conducted in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The aging lasts about 16 months, with moderate use of new wood (about 25%). The goal is to express the purity of the fruit while bringing complexity and structure through aging.
Château Moncets: bright ruby color, intense nose of black cherry, blackberry, and violet, punctuated by soft notes of toasted wood and spices. The palate is supple, balanced, with a fresh framework and fine tannins. A charming, straightforward, digestible wine that ages elegantly over 10 to 15 years.
