Domaine François Raveneau — The pinnacle of Chablis

Founded in 1948, Domaine François Raveneau is widely regarded as the greatest producer in Chablis. With just under 9 hectares of vineyards across the region’s most elite sites, the domaine crafts wines of extraordinary tension, clarity, and aging potential — sought after across the world and produced in painfully small quantities.

Still family-run, the domaine is now helmed by Isabelle and Maxime Raveneau, who continue the legacy of precision and restraint that made the estate legendary.

Philosophy and winemaking

Raveneau follows a deeply traditional, low-intervention approach in both vineyard and cellar. Farming is manual and meticulous, with very low yields. Grapes are harvested by hand and vinified by plot using indigenous yeasts and slow fermentations.

Wines are aged for around 18 months in neutral oak barrels, allowing full development without masking the terroir. Bottling occurs only when the wine is ready — no shortcuts, no haste.

Wine style

Raveneau Chablis is uncompromisingly pure, powerful, and mineral. Aromas of citrus, white fruit, and wet stone lead to a palate that is chiselled, saline, and incredibly long. The texture is both taut and mouth-filling, with a chalky grip and laser-sharp acidity.

These are wines built for the long haul — often stunning young, but transcendent with 10, 20, or even 30 years of cellaring.

Signature cuvées

Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos – Majestic and structured. Raveneau’s flagship: deep, mineral, endlessly long.

Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre – Intense, focused, and vibrant. Often described as a Grand Cru in all but name.

Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux – Richer, more grounded, yet always fresh and pure. Ages beautifully.

Chablis Village – Remarkably complete for a village-level wine. Crisp, saline, and refined.
