Nestled on the wild south coast of Islay, the mythical Scottish island of peaty whisky, Ardbeg is a legendary distillery founded in 1815. Renowned for producing some of the most intensely peaty malts in the world, it embodies tradition, innovation, and extreme character.

After a period of closure in the 1980s, Ardbeg was revived in 1997 thanks to its acquisition by the Glenmorangie group (LVMH). The distillery is now led by key figures such as Master Distiller Dr Bill Lumsden, a creative visionary, and Colin Gordon, the current distillery manager, who ensures rare artisanal rigor.

Terroir and style

Located by the ocean, Ardbeg benefits from a marked marine climate and soft spring water, filtered through peat. The slow distillation in traditional copper stills, combined with a very expressive peat (over 50 ppm), gives rise to a unique style: smoky, salty, sometimes medicinal, but always with striking depth and complexity.

Philosophy and methods

Ardbeg remains true to proven artisanal methods: long fermentation, distillation in small batches, aging in carefully selected bourbon or sherry casks. The use of experimental casks for certain editions also reflects a spirit of controlled innovation.

Iconic cuvées

  • Ardbeg 10 years: the icon. Powerful, peaty, balanced by notes of lemon and vanilla.

  • Uigeadail: sumptuous marriage of sherry and bourbon casks. Rich, spicy, long.

  • Corryvreckan: intense and virile, with a peppery depth and marine notes.

  • Wee Beastie 5 years: young and wild, a raw expression of peat.

  • An Oa: rounder, aged in virgin oak and Pedro Ximénez casks, perfect for discovering Ardbeg.
