A Médoc reference between classic density and contemporary brilliance

Château Les Ormes de Pez is one of the historical estates of Saint-Estèphe. Located north of the village, it has belonged to the Cazes family since 1940, who also own Lynch-Bages. Today, Jean-Charles Cazes manages the estate with a constant demand for quality and a desire to highlight the identity of Saint-Estèphe in an accessible and refined style. He is accompanied by a technical team trained in rigor and listening to the terroir.

Terroir & grape varieties

The vineyard covers about 40 hectares divided into two main types of soils: deep gravel on clay subsoil, and more sandy terrains. This varied terroir allows for a balanced expression between structure, freshness, and elegance. The grape varieties are typical of the Médoc:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon (≈ 54%)

  • Merlot (≈ 37%)

  • Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot as complements.

Philosophy & winemaking

The vines are managed according to sustainable principles. Harvesting is manual, followed by rigorous sorting. Vinification is done by plot, in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. Aging takes place for about 16 months in French oak barrels, nearly half of which are new. The goal is to preserve the purity of the fruit while refining the tannins.

Style & emblematic cuvée

  • Château Les Ormes de Pez: the grand wine expresses a classic structure, present but civilized tannins, and deep fruit mixed with notes of spices, graphite, and blond tobacco. It is a straight, energetic, and elegant Saint-Estèphe, capable of aging very well.
