Artisan winemaker, expression of terroir & generous diversity

Born in Miège between Sierre and Crans-Montana, Claudy Clavien is the 3rd generation at the helm of La Cave des Champs, currently cultivating approximately 6–6.5 hectares in sustainable agriculture. A passionate winemaker, he explores the historical soils resulting from limestone collapses, favoring low yields and expressive maturity for each plot.

Terroir & grape varieties

His vines, located between 730‑800 m altitude, grow on complex soils (gray-blue & red, marl/gneiss). The estate works with a varied palette: Petite Arvine, Païen, Fendant (Chasselas), Cornalin, Humagne Rouge, Syrah, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Diolinoir, Pinot blanc/gris, Muscat, making the most of each terroir.

Viticulture & winemaking

Manual harvesting and rigorous sorting. Gentle pressing for whites. Vinifications in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks, careful aging in fine-grained barrels, sometimes on lees for reds, without excess, to preserve purity and aromatic coherence.

Style & aging

Claudy's wines are textured, elegant, balanced:

  • The whites (Fendant, Petite Arvine, Païen) are fine, saline, and organoleptically crystalline.

  • The reds (Cornalin, Humagne, Syrah, Gamay) combine fruity intensity, spicy freshness, and silky tannins.
They can be enjoyed from 3‑5 years but maintain good aging potential up to 10–15 years depending on the cuvée.

Iconic cuvées

  • Petite Arvine – Perles du Soleil: saline vivacity, citrus, and white flowers.

  • Païen – Larmes du Terroir: savagnin expression, herbal-mineral.

  • Fendant – Traditional Chasselas: flinty and drinkable, perfect as an aperitif.

  • Cornalin & Cornalin “Carmin des Pierres”: aromatic, spicy, terroir reds.

  • Syrah: remarkable Syrah from Valais, spicy, dense, elegant.

  • Gamay, Pinot Noir, Humagne Rouge: complementary ranges, fruity and structured.
